Honduras face tough ask in Group E at big price – can they cause an upset?

Honduras will be looking to win their first game at the World Cup, in their third tournament as the side looks to have another tough ask in Brazil.

Manager: Luis Fernando Suarez
World Cup best:
Group Stage (1982, 2010)
How they qualified
: Third place finish in CONCACAF qualifying

Like a lot of CONCACAF sides their away form is poor in comparison to their form at home, where they remained unbeaten throughout qualifying.

An away win at Mexico suggests they can compete on the road, however at a major tournament they will have to show their tough side like they did in 2010.

Star player: Emilio Izaguirre (Celtic)

The Celtic full-back is the best player in the Honduras squad and after performing well four years ago was a target for Arsenal and Manchester United.

A serious injury hampered his progress with the Scottish champions, however he is started to rediscover his best form and it couldn’t be better timed.

One to watch: Andy Najar (Anderlecht)

After bursting onto the MLS scene in 2010, the Belgian giants Anderlecht shelled out £2million on the youngster.

He made his international debut three years ago and has made giant strides and is a key part of Luis Fernando Suarez’s side.

Honduras showed at the last World Cup they can fight, conceding just three goals in three matches.

They held Switzerland at 2010 and prevented them from progressing into the knock out stages, in what is one of the best results in the nations history.

Obviously they are one of the weakest, if not the weakest, at the tournament and they were thrashed by Brazil in a recent friendly.

Best suited to the counter attack, when they’ve tried to dominate sides they’ve been outclassed themselves.

How far can they go?

A £1 bet on Honduras will return £4001 and they are that long for a reason.

Their aim will to be win a game and if they can sneak through then it will be the story of the tournament.
